Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka shankar is a British and American sitar player. She also performs music. She is the youngest female and the first to be awarded an official British House of Commons shield. Anoushka is the emerging star of Indian sitar. She is both the student and daughter of Ravi Shankar. She spent her childhood bouncing back and forth from London and New Delhi. As a teenager, her first show at New Delhi took place. She graduated in 1999 from her high schooling within Encinitas CA. Anouskha was only a teenager, has had an extremely successful recording and performing career. She performs regularly alongside her father and has done so for many years. In 1998 she released her debut single album Anourag. In 2002, she debuted her Grammy Nominated Live at Carnegie Hall. The stage is a very large part of her career. She's played in many famous venues around the world. Anoushka isn't just a musician. In 2002, she wrote the book Bapi The love of My Live this is an illustrated biography that gives a special honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. In 2003, she appeared on Dance Like a Man as an actress and Bharat Natyam artist. Anoushka continues to grow in her career and there will be many other things to be expected from this talented lady. Anoushka lived a long traveling between London and Delhi during her young years. Later, she moved to California for high school. at the age of nine she began her studies in the piano with her father. The first time she performed on the Sitar was in her 75th birthday celebration in Delhi, four years after. Alongside her father, his world tour, Anoushka had a wealth of performances on stage at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as recording alongside George Harrison. The House of Commons Shield was presented an award from the British Parliament in recognition of being the top Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and youngest recipient of the prize.
